Volver a Kwizzy

We want everyone to be able to play Kwizzy. This page says what we have done, what we haven't, and how to reach us.

What works today

  • In a solo quiz, every answer is a real button that can be reached with Tab and pressed with Enter or Space, and its name includes its letter, for example "Answer B: Saturn".
  • You can also press 1–4 or A–D to answer. Shortcuts are ignored while Ctrl, Alt or Command is held, so they don't get in the way of screen reader and browser shortcuts.
  • After you answer, the other choices are disabled, the result ("Correct" or "Incorrect", and the right answer) is announced, and focus moves to the Next button. After Next, focus moves to the new question.
  • Answer colours were chosen to have at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against their text, and an automated test checks this.
  • The confetti, shaking and bouncing animations are switched off if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • The join page has a labelled code field, opens a number keyboard on phones, and announces an error if the code isn't valid.

How we check

Automated accessibility checks (axe-core) and a keyboard-only test of a full solo quiz run with every code change. We have not yet had a formal audit or tested with a range of screen readers and people with disabilities.

Known gaps

  • The host's game console and the big-screen view have not been reviewed for accessibility yet.
  • Pictures that teachers add to questions don't have a text description yet, so a screen reader announces nothing for them.
  • The quiz editor has not been reviewed for accessibility yet.
