Student privacy, in plain language
Last updated: October 2026
The short version: students don't need an account to play, and we don't ask for their name or email. This page describes what the app actually does. Our full Privacy Policy still applies.
Playing a library quiz on your own
- No account, name or email is needed.
- The quiz runs in the browser. Which options you pick stay on your device and are not sent to us.
- We count anonymous events, such as that a quiz was started or finished, with the score and which question numbers were missed. These don't include names, typed text or the questions' content, and players are never identified. See our cookie policy for how this is done without cookies.
- The browser remembers one thing on the device: whether sound effects and music are on or off.
Joining a teacher's live game
- A player enters the game code and a nickname of their choice. No account is created.
- The nickname is shown to the teacher, on the big screen and, for the top places, on other players' phones. It must be unique in the game. Our database stores it with the player's score for that game so a leaderboard can be shown.
- For each answer we record the question number, the option chosen, whether it was correct and the points earned, tied to that nickname within that game only. Nothing links a nickname to an account, an email address or a device. After a live game the teacher's report shows results for the class, not for individual students.
- When a teacher sets homework, a student opens a link, types a nickname and answers the questions on their own. We record the nickname, each answer and whether it was correct, for that homework only, and the teacher sees each nickname's score. Nothing links the nickname to an account, an email address or a device, so a teacher who wants to know who is who should ask students to use an agreed nickname.
- A teacher can offer flashcards with a quiz (“Study first”). Studying them asks for no nickname, name or account, runs on the student's own device, and we record nothing about who studied or which cards they knew.
- A game's nicknames, scores and answers are permanently deleted 60 days after the game ends, and homework nicknames and answers 60 days after its deadline, or sooner if the teacher deletes the quiz or the homework.
- Teachers should tell students to use a nickname instead of their real name.
What we don't do
- We don't show ads to players, and we don't sell personal information.
- We don't ask players for an email address, a date of birth or a photo.
- We don't put sign-up or upgrade prompts on the screens players see.
